Dull My Brain is the first song and story on their upcoming 5 track concept EP. Featuring timeless rock inspired guitar riffs and 80’s hard rock style vocals, The Jailbirds have a fresh yet nostalgic feel, reminiscent of the 70’s rock scene whilst still being new and exciting. In this song you can hear heavy influence from some of the boys’ favourite bands including Guns N’ Roses, Van Halen, and Deep Purple.
Dull My Brain starts off the storyline following our main character through his struggles with addiction. He is battling whether or not he should quit smoking and doing drugs. On one hand he loves it, and on the other he feels that maybe there will be long term consequences for his actions.
He is afraid that he might be hurting himself. After this song, we follow the character through other instances in his life while battling with anxiety/depression, his love life, people in his life that take advantage of his good nature, and more. All of the songs stand on their own, but also follow a linear timeline.
Dull My Brain is the follow up to the recent single Watery Grave which gained a spot on the prestigious Spotify Hard Rock playlist.
ABOUT THE JAILBIRDS
Over the course of the last three years, the power trio – consisting of the intricate guitar work and powerful vocals from Myke Penney, the sludgy bass lines of Liam Hills, and the pounding drums of Eric Parent – have performed extensively across Ontario demonstrating, both in the studio and on the stage; they’re a band you simply must hear.
Winners of Best Rock Band at the 2018 Mississauga Music Awards (Canada), THE JAILBIRDS and The Black River have drawn comparisons to the likes of Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Royal Blood and Alter Bridge, among others.
THE JAILBIRDS have established themselves one of the most promising up and coming independent bands Canada has to offer with a sound that is equally rooted in the rock and roll of today as it is in that of the ‘70s and ‘80s.
2019 has proved to be a huge year for the band. Beyond releasing their debut studio EP The Black River THE JAILBIRDS have received strong critical acclaim, including being featured on the esteemed Hamilton/Burlington based radio network, Y108 Rocks! The record and band have received a phenomenal response from their dynamic live performance.
Having cut their teeth on the road, THE JAILBIRDS have spent a majority of the first half of 2019 touring extensively throughout Ontario and Quebec in support of The Black River, most notably including a set at last year’s Voodoo Rockfest near Kingston, Ontario. The band also churned out two video clips for the cuts ‘Black Madonna’ and ‘The Black River’.

Weatherstate – Reveal Ethereal Accompanying Video Clip For Single ‘Hangar’
Weymouth punk band Weatherstate released their massively hooky new single ‘Hangar’ the other week and now the track has a music video with an extra-terrestrial theme. “When we had started shaping up the original demo ideas for “Hangar” in the spring of last year, I was bouncing riffs off of our long-time video director and pal Ben Pollard,” says guitarist Callan Milward. “Whilst we had no initial plans in place for music videos at that time, his initial vibe on the track kept coming back to thoughts about outer space, which ended up snowballing into something much greater. It’s safe to say this is perhaps the start of what’s to come and we can’t wait to drip feed our barmy world into everyone. Thanks to everyone who’s joined the initiative so far.”
‘Hangar’ is the first track the band have released via their new label Rude Records and the riff-fuelled composition is expertly produced by Four Year Strong’s Alan Day.
Rising to the challenges that COVID has posed, Weatherstate have been working with Day as a producer remotely and, in a similar vein, they had to be a bit creative in getting footage together for the ‘Hangar’ music video. “It goes without saying but doing everything remotely has been a massive challenge and an interesting obstacle to overcome,” admits Milward. “Especially for us, as we have been pretty traditionalist when it comes to writing. I feel we handled it in the best way we could, considering the international side of things too. With pre-production, we had to have some late nights because of the time-zone differences. Neil Kennedy at The Ranch really nailed the engineering and Alan smashed the mix over in the States. All I can say is that you can work miracles over Zoom these days.”
‘Hangar’ is a track very much driven by the dramatic events of 2020 and is clearly just as relevant today as it was when it was written. Vocalist and guitarist Harry Hoskins says “The track is about a phone call to a friend last summer, about how f*cked everything is. Growing numb and bitter towards everything and everyone, but also learning to find peace within our own individual coping mechanisms. Understanding that sometimes a crutch is needed to stay sane, whether that be self-destructive, or progressive through the helping hand of a friend.”

Joe Hogan – Bass

Wicked Smile release latest video + single ‘Killer At Large’
Australian heavy rock band Wicked Smile have roared into 2021 with a brand new single titled ‘Killer At Large’. This follows on from their 2020 debut ep titled ‘Delirium’ to very favourable reviews.
The new single is again produced by Paul Laine (The Defiants) and mastered by Bruno Ravel (The Defiants/Danger Danger).
Guitarist Stevie Janevski goes on to say, “last year was all about giving the world a ‘taste’ of what we’re about. We’re a five piece kick ass heavy rock band and I think we made our presence known with the release of our Delirium ep”.
The new single ‘Killer At Large’ will no doubt be another talking point with its bombastic wall of sound. Vocalist Danny states, “this is my favourite song so far. It’s heavy, yet melodic and the song fits in perfectly with what we’re about. The energy from the entire band is amazing”.
